Manroland Sheetfed
Girls’ Day is a nationwide German initiative created specifically to motivate girls to take up technical careers contributing to the increasing proportion of female employees in traditionally male-dominated occupations.
This month, ten school girls were able to experience first-hand the apprenticeship opportunities Manroland Sheetfed has to offer. Under the guidance of young Manroland apprentices engaged in electronics, mechatronics and industrial mechanics, the girls were set a task to work on the various phases of creating an electronic cube. This included drilling threads, mechanically assembling a small module, soldering an electronic circuit board and assembling it into a fully functioning electronic cube system, all under professional guidance. The girls mastered the tasks with flying colours, and were able to present their handiwork at school the next day.
Manroland Sheetfed’s Training Manager Matthias Derzbach said: «Girls’ Day gives school girls the opportunity to experience an engineering environment. It is important young people get to know more about our apprenticeship schemes and to ask questions as well trying some of the practical tasks set by the company”.
After a luncheon laid on the company the girls thanked Manroland for an exciting and varied day.
Comment – Manroland Sheetfed’s Girls Day
Women are under-represented in the printing industry with relatively few female mechatronics technicians. Manroland is helping to address this shortage and has been involved with Girls’ Day for many years helping to show young girls the new career opportunities which they may not have considered on their own.
In Offenbach, Manroland trains young people in professions such as media technologist, electronics technician, foundry mechanic, industrial clerk, industrial mechanic, mechatronics technician, technical model maker, technical product designer, foundry mechanic, cutting machine operator and media design specializing in digital and print.
Those interested in an apprenticeship or studies with in-depth practical experience can now apply for 2024 at office.bildungszentrum@manrolandsheetfed.com.
