Marelli Motori
Marelli Motori has recently supplied two 6000HP motors to Callan Marine for their General MacArthur vessel, the latest addition to the Callan Marine’s dredge fleet which, upon completion later this year, will be the largest and most powerful dredge in North America with a total of 24,000 installed horsepower.
The two Marelli Motori motors will operate the large deck pumps that carry the slurry from the cutter to the shore; these motors have the highest kW/kg ratio ever realized on 710 frame sizes.
As the overall size is vital in marine applications due to the limited space available for onboard equipment, the motors also have enhanced two-sided ventilation using 4 auxiliary fan motors and 2 custom air to water heat exchangers to give superior cooling of the stator and rotor core.
