Bergen, Norway – Bergen Engines announced its participation in the EU-funded LOWNOISER project, a groundbreaking initiative aimed at reducing underwater noise pollution from maritime traffic. This effort, led by Norway in collaboration with the EU, will advance noise reduction technologies, establish regulatory standards, and promote sustainable industry practices to protect marine ecosystems.
Underwater noise pollution disrupts marine life, affecting communication, navigation and reproduction of key species. In partnership with Maritime CleanTech, and other industry leaders, Bergen Engines is developing innovative solutions, including enhanced engine mounts to reduce vibrations and structural noise from marine vessels. These advancements will support quieter and more environmentally friendly shipping operations.
Norwegian Minister of Climate and Environment, Andreas Bjelland Eriksen, emphasized the importance of this initiative:
“Norway is proud to be at the forefront of green solutions for the shipping industry. Cooperation with the EU strengthens market opportunities for Norwegian companies while reinforcing our expertise in sustainable maritime innovation.”
As part of its broader commitment to sustainability, Bergen Engines is also exploring alternative fuel sources to further decarbonize maritime operations. The LOWNOISER project aligns with global efforts to create a cleaner, quieter, and more sustainable future for the shipping industry.
